“ Fighting corruption is not only for government institutions ” Deputy Ombudsman tells Eastern Province partners
07th December 2015, The Office of the Ombudsman continues its campaign as the anti corruption week is on its 6th day. Today, in the hall of the Eastern Province in Rwamagana District was held discussions on how different actors based in the Province can join hands in the fight against corruption. In her opening remarks, Deputy Ombudsman in charge of preventing and fighting injustice Hon Kanzayire Bernadette reminded participants that fighting corruption is everyone’s responsibility.
The discussions were organized as part of the anti corruption which kicked off on 29th November 2015 with a theme of “ Fight corruption for a sustainable development”. The meeting brought together representatives of Rwanda National Police, Executive Secretary of District, Private Sector Federation,
Rwanda Youth council, Rwanda Women council.
Deputy Ombudsman in her presentation pointed out the consequences of corruption on community “when supplier bribes to get a tender there is no doubt that works will not be well done and community will face consequences”.
Governor of Eastern Province Madam Uwamariya Odette urged participants to actively fight corruption by reporting it.
The Region Police Commander in Nyanza ACP Karasi Emmanuel who was present in the discussions commended the high participation in the discussions “ It is a big step that now people discuss openly corruption compared to the past where people felt not concerned.”
During discussions participants vows their commitment in fight against corruption, one of the representative of Rwanda Youth Council said “ If you are corrupt you are the enemy of the country.”
The Anti corruption week will end on 9th December 2015 on the International Anti Corruption day.
