Gambian Minister of Justice commended the close relationship of the Office of the Ombudsman with other anti corruption institutions

KIGALI,02 October 2015, Hon. Mama Fatima Singhateh , Attorney General and Minister of Justice with two members of her delegation paid a courtesy call to the Ombudsman.

The purpose of the visit is to learn from Rwanda’s experience in the fight against corruption since Gambia has initiated the process of establishing its Anti-Corruption Commission under the auspices of the Ministry of Justice as the implementing body.

Gambia Minister of Justice said that it is fascinating how the Office of the Ombudsman has close relationship with every anti corruption institution she got chance to visit include civil society organization. She added that the choice to visit Rwanda was made upon the successful experience of Rwanda in the fight against corruption.

The delegation of Gambia visited Rwanda National Police, Rwanda National Public Prosecution Authority, Ministry of Justice, Transparency International Authority, among others.

The Gambia enacted its Anti-Corruption Commission Act of 2012 which makes provisions for amongst other things, the establishment of an Anti-Corruption Commission, functions and powers of the commission including the power to prosecute offenses and issue penalties under the Act.
