Heads of Anti-corruption institutions reaffirmed their commitment and cooperation towards the prevention and combating of corruption in the East Africa region.

The Office of the Ombudsman hosted the 7th Annual General Meeting of East African Association of Anti­ Corruption Authorities (EAAACA) from 4th to 5th November 2013 at Hotel des Mille Collines. The theme for the meeting was “Strengthening Regional Cooperation against Corruption in East Africa". The Office also had a privilege of hosting the launch of the Asset Recovery Inter-agency Network for East Africa.

In her opening remarks, MRS. TUGIREYEZU VENANTIE , Minister in the President’s Office the Guest of Honor in the opening ceremony said that EAAACA Annual General Meeting is a unique opportunity that lay the groundwork to fight corruption in the region.

Addressing the participants, EAAACA president JUSTICE IRENE MULYANGONJA KAKOOZA, the Inspectorate General of Uganda commended the high representation of Rwandan government institutions, civil society and private sector in the event which show the commitment and participation of different actors in the fight against corruption.

The meeting brought together EAAACA members from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. It also brought on board as full members Anti-Corruption Authorities from Djibouti, Ethiopia and South Sudan who previously held Observer status. The representatives of Sweden Embassy, Stolen Asset Recovery Initiative, Interpol General Secretariat ,ARINSA , CARIN Secretariat were present.
