From 7th April 2016, Rwanda started a 100 days of 22nd commemoration of Genocide against Tutsi under the theme "Fighting Genocide Ideology".On 7th April 2016, his Excellency President Paul Kagame and First lady Jeannette Kagame as well as visiting Tanzanian President Dr John Pombe Magufuli and his wife Janeth Magufuli laid a wreath at the Kigali Genocide Memorial in honour of Genocide victims and the presidents also lit the Flame of Remembrance which will burn for 100 days during the mourning period.

The events to commemorate the genocide takes place at village (umudugudu) level in the country. Citizens gathers for remembrance of Genocide against Tutsi and its victims, testimonies sharing and discussions on how to fight Genocide Ideology.
The Office of the Ombudsman has organized different activities in the Genocide Commemoration period. On 8th April 2016, Mr Nikuze Donatien from National Commission for the Fight against Genocide delivered a presentation to the authorities and staff of the Office of the Ombudsman on the fight against Genocide ideology and he called upon staff of the Office of the Ombudsman to actively participate in the fight against Genocide ideology.

on 11th April 2014, the staff of the Ombudsman watched a series of documentary movies on Genocide namely "Ubumuntu" , Future lost among others. On 12th April 2014, the authorities and staff of the Office of the Ombudsman visited Kigali Genocide memorial and paid tribute to the victims of Genocide by laying a wreath at the mass graves at Kigali Genocide Memorial and observed a minute of silence for remembering the victims of Genocide.
