Kigali, 30.09.2015: In the interest of the justice, the Office has powers to request the Supreme Court to reconsider and review judgments rendered at the last instance by ordinary courts, commercial and Military courts, if there is any persistence of injustice. The reconsideration and review shall be made in accordance with the Organic Law establishing the organization, functioning and competence of the Supreme Court.
A big number of citizens power as another opportunity of appeal. Thus, the Office of the Ombudsman receives a big number of requests for judgment review. It is this in that regard that the Office of the Ombudsman organized a workshop with Kigali Bar Association members to raise this issue with lawyers since they are the ones who assist most of the complaints to file a case at the Office. The aim of the workshop is to discuss with lawyers on how lawyers can contribute in the fight against corruption and the way they can stop encouraging their clients to file judgment for review at the Office of the Ombudsman though they know that the judgment has no injustice aspect.
“ Lets join hands in the fight against corruption by not being involved in corruption practices” Deputy Ombudsman Hon Kanzayire Bernadette addressing more than 80 lawyers. She added that lawyers should bring the request for judgment review, which has injustice and it will avoid citizens to spend their money and time.
