2nd December 2015: As part of the anti corruption week which started on 29th November till 9th December 2015 with a theme“ Fight corruption for a sustainable development”, the Office of the Ombudsman organized discussions with key partners in the fight against corruption which were held in Southern Province.
The discussions brought together members of private sector, Rwanda Youth Council, Rwanda Women Council and Districts Executive Secretary and Police Commanders, which represented District Anti Corruption Advisory Council.
“The first step we have to make in the fight against corruption is to be committed and other will follow “Governor of Southern Province Mr. Alphonse Munyantwari in her opening remarks.
Permanent Secretary at the Office of the Ombudsman, Mr Mbarubukeye Xavier called upon participants to keep sensitizing on the evilness of corruption since to successfully fight corruption requires joint efforts .
During discussions one participant from Nyanza District said that convicts for embezzlement of funds should get additional punishment related to community services so that they can give back to the community.
On 1st December 2015, discussions were held in Western Province and on 4th December 2015 the discussions will be in Nothern Province and on 7th December 2015 it will be the turn of Eastern Province.
