15 September 2016,The Ministry of Local Government and Rwanda Governance Board in collaboration with other stakeholders among them the Office of the Ombudsman has organized Governance Month from 14th September till end October under the theme “Citizen - centered governance; a pillar for sustainable development”.
The month was launched at the National Level in Nyabihu District in Western Province. Officiating the event on 14th September 2016, Minister of Local Government, Hon Kaboneka Francis said that the Governance Month will emphasize on the role of citizens and local leaders in the social economic transformation of the livelihood of the communities.

Deputy Ombudsman in charge of preventing and fighting injustice was present in the launch of Governance month and the staff of the Office of the Ombudsman will join the team during the Governance Month.
The Governance month practice was launched in 2011 with the aim of bring Central, Local Government, Civil Society, Private Sector, Citizens on board in the process of solving injustice cases.
The main activities during this month will focus on Citizen Participation and Self-Reliance Campaign whereby officials from local and central government will meet citizens in order to discuss, among others, strategies to increase access to electricity for every able household to strive to be connected and to discuss different policies and strategies for self-reliance.
