Office of the Ombudsman to be among other Observers during 2017 Presidential Elections in Rwanda

The the date approaches for presidential elections in Rwanda the National Electoral Commission (NEC) has approved the Office of The Ombudsman to be among other observers on 04th August 2017, the day of presidential elections 2017 for those who stay inside the Country.

Normally, NEC reserves the responsibility of approving all observers from inside or out of the country in order to ensure the promotion of transparency and respect of laws and citizens’ fundamental rights and freedoms.

All observers must point the area of Deployment in which they will operate and it is with this regard that the Office of the Ombudsman will operate in all 30 districts of the Country on the very day of 04th August 2017 from the beginning to the end and the reporting will be within 60 days after the final publication of elections results.

ORIGIN OF ELECTION OBSERVERS

Domestic Observers may originate from:

. Accredited Public entities having election- related activities in their attributions;
. Political Organisations registered in Rwanda
. Forums of Political Organisations registered in Rwanda;
.Forum of registered Governmental or non-Governmental Organisation operating in
Rwanda, and having election-related activities in their attributions. An organisation
with membership in the forum, provides its observers through the forum.
. Faith based organisations accredited by competent authorities;
.Media organs and journalists with credentials issued by Media High Council;
.Other legally recognized organs.
