The Office of the Ombudsman had a TV show on corruption with the purpose of more explanation on corruption. The topic tackled by the Deputy Ombudsman in charge of fighting corruption and related offences Mr MUSANGABATWARE Clement was Corruption having a glance on the Offices’s attributions and services rendered.

During this Show at Isango Star TV, the Deputy ombudsman begun by synthesizing the East African Bribery Index 2017 released on 31st August 2017 by Transparency International Rwanda chapter. Though the index covers the whole East African region with exception of Burundi and South Sudan this year for insecurity reason, it ranks Rwanda somewhere. Rwanda is the best within the region but still has much more to do in Water and electricity services that is at 18.1 %, Rwanda National Police 15.5% in some of its services, local government 5.4%, justice sector 5.1%, education sector 3.5%, in revenues 3% and 0.5 in Health sector.
‘’Despite this range pending for Rwanda this year, the fight against corruption is still flawless and all corruption related cases are handled’’ said the Deputy Ombudsman exemplifying UECL and WASAC cases.

Questions from Tv audience included, strategies of Rwanda government on corruption fight, local government official’s liability reports to the Office of the Ombudsman and the help given to the people who can’t reach the Office location in Capital.

The Deputy Ombudsman, answered that the Government of Rwanda has plenty of strategies that include the political will of fighting against corruption, establishment of different institutions with anti-corruption capacity, the collaboration among institutions in corruption line, communication facilities on corruption reporting such as toll free lines (call 199 and sms on 1990), Suggestion boxes throughout the country opened only by Ombudsman staff and many more.

About reports from local government, the Deputy ombudsman, assured the verification of such reports.
The location of the Office, the Deputy Ombudsman explained the existence of local cyber café placed in different districts for Complainant use only. ‘’They get all needed help for send us a complaint’’ he added. Not only the cyber café, the Office also do descent on grassroots’ level to resolve injustice cases during injustice campaigns.

The informer within the audience also revealed the corruption cases in WAWA rehabilitation center.

The Deputy Ombudsman in charge of preventing and fighting corruption and related offences concluded by asking everyone in the country to join hands and fight against corruption.
